Lora Cantele, RA, APAIA, Certified Aromaflexologist

Chief Editor/Publisher

Lora Cantele is a Registered Clinical Aromatherapist through the Aromatherapy Registration Council (ARC) and a Certified Aromaflexology (formerly Swiss Reflex Therapy (SRT)) practitioner and instructor through its creator, Shirley Price. Her work as former president of AIA has helped the organization flourish to become a leading voice in advancing an ethical practice of aromatherapy for personal, as well as, clinical use. During her early tenure at the AIA (2006-2012) she successfully lead the development and implementation of AIA’s aromatherapy educational standards to take the level of aromatherapy education in the USA to new heights. As an aromatherapy educator, writer, and international speaker Ms. Cantele continues to unite and inspire her colleagues to speak out about the importance of this work within an integrative health and wellness program. She is co-author of the Complete Aromatherapy & Essential Oils Handbook for Everyday Wellness

Kathryn Willms

Kathryn Willms is a professional editor, writer and project coordinator based in Toronto, Canada. Her undergraduate education focused on biology and English, and she went on to complete a MA from the University of Calgary with a thesis on environmental activism. She has previously worked in financial services and journalism, and was most recently publisher of Iguana Books and vice-president of Colborne Communications. Editorial Review

Eileen Cristina is owner of Kneading Wellness, a Barnes’ Myofascial Release therapist and Clinical Aromatherapist with a 20-year, full-time practice. She is Board Certified in Integrative Health by the American Association of Integrative Medicine. As part of a Complimentary Alternative Medicine program, Ms.Cristina taught clinical aromatherapy introduction to nursing students at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia for eight years. She also teaches at the Lancaster School of Massage in Pennsylvania and teaches privately. She has been published in several industry journals and magazines. With compassion and dedication, she is a long-time volunteer serving the needs of first responders and others through her work with disaster relief organizations such as Serving Those Who Serve.

Raphael d'Angelo, MD

Medical Advisor

Raphael d’Angelo, MD is an aromatherapy educator, researcher and practitioner. As a holistic medical doctor, Dr. d'Angelo provides consultative services in the area of natural health. Dr. d'Angelo has over 45 years in medical microbiology and parasitology and conducts research in various aspects of infectious diseases. Certified in family medicine, integrative holistic medicine, medical microcurrent, clinical aromatherapy, and medical technology he combines his expertise with rigorous training in essential oil therapies. Dr. d'Angelo is a co-founder of the Alliance of International Aromatherapists (AIA), AIA president (2006-2008, 2015), and AIA Medical Advisor.

Mindy Green, MS, RA, RH (AHG)

Mindy Green holds a bachelor's degree in Holistic Health Sciences and a master's in Health and Human Services.She has 35 years of experience in the natural products and health care industries.She currently runs her own consulting company, Green Scentsations LLC, where she empowers others to apply her experience in their own operations and products. She spent seven years working in the botanical research division of R&D for the Aveda Corporation as their clinical aromatherapist. Ms. Green is a founding member of the American Herbalists Guild and serves on a wide variety of advisory boards and committees, including the American Herbal Products Association and the Aromatherapy Registration Council. She continues to lecture and educate world-wide and is an author and contributor of numerous books on herbal therapies.

Bob Harris, Consultant, Educator

As the Owner and Director at Quintessential Aromatics Ltd, Bob Harris has been providing research and education for the aromatherapy, pharmaceutical and medical industries for over 20 years by using scientific evidence to validate the therapeutic efficacy of essential oils. He is the creator of a unique Essential Oil Bioactivity Research Database and is the former publisher of the International Journal of Essential Oil Therapeutics. Much of his work has been involved in the production of scientifically based educational materials for advanced clinical aromatherapy, aromatic medicine and corporate documentation. As a consultant he works with the pharmaceutical, cosmetic and complementary medicine industries who wish to include essential oils as active components in formulations.

Wendy Maddocks, PhD, RN, Aromatherapist

Wendy first trained in aromatherapy in 1991 under Eve Taylor in London, initially to complement her nursing practice at the time. She set up and taught professional aromatherapy courses in Palmerston North, NZ for fifteen years, alongside nursing courses, running a small clinic and completing further study in nursing, herbal medicine, massage and aromatherapy. A highlight was being awarded a prize for research which meant a trip to Provence was possible with Aroma Tours to study under Daniel Penëol and Kurt Schnaubelt in 2005. In 2008 Wendy was awarded a doctorate degree where the clinical use of NZ native oils was explored to alleviate side effects of radiation treatment. For the last four years Wendy has worked as a senior academic at the University of Canterbury, teaching post graduate health courses and supporting post graduate research students in their research. In

addition, Wendy runs a niche natural skin care business and consultancy service helping people bring their products to market. She has undertaken studies on Kānuka oil in conjunction with a microbiologist. Wendy is one of the international judges for the Gattefossé Foundation international prize and sits of the Gattefossé Foundation Scientific advisory board to help enhance the clinical evidence in aromatherapy. Wendy has published widely in aromatherapy and nursing literature.

Marco Valussi, BSc. (Hons.) Herbal Medicine

Marco Valussi is a Clinical Phytotherapist with a specific expertise in essential oils; he works as consultant for the distilling industry and as educator and writer in the fields of herbal medicine, aromatherapy and medicinal plants.

He studied Forestry Science in Italy, and then gained his degree in Herbal Medicine (BSc. (Hons.)) in 1998 from the Middlesex University, London, after obtaining a Diploma in Aromatherapy in 1995 from ITHMA.

Since 1996 Marco has written more than 120 articles for different professional journals and magazines, on different subjects related to medicinal and aromatic plants. He is the author of 13 scientific papers on the same subjects. In 2012, he published the second edition of a professional textbook on essential oil science.

Marco is an educator and public speaker for herbalists, pharmacists and medical doctors, and is a visiting Professor at the Masters in Medicinal plants at the Universities of Florence, Siena and Pisa.

He is also consultant for the herbal and essential oil industry and for international NGOs working in developing countries, as a distilling and herbal extracts specialist. In particular he has worked in Kenya, Nepal, Colombia, Cabo Verde and Palestine.

Marco is the production manager of Magnifica essenza srl, an Italian distilling company based in Trentino, in the middle of the Dolomites, specializing in mountain plants and trees.He is a member of the Scientific Committees for the professional magazine "L'Erborista", for the association for ecological dermatology “Skineco”, and he is a scientific consultant for the Italian Society of Herbal Science and Technology (SISTE). He is the Italian representative for EHTPA (European Herbal and Traditional Practitioners Association) and a member of the “Italian Society for Research on Essential Oils” (SIROE). 


Guest Editors

Kelly Ablard, PhD, MSc, EOT, RA

Kelly holds a PhD in Chemical Ecology and is a certified and Registered Essential Oil Therapist. Her research interests are in sustainability, chemical communication, aromatic plant medicine, ethnobotany, and the preservation of endangered Rosewood (Aniba rosaeodora) tree. She is the director of Airmid Institute, which supports aromatherapy training in indigenous communities, projects focused on the conservation and sustainable management of threatened aromatic medicinal oil-bearing plants, and the ethical sourcing of essential oils. She was awarded the British Columbia Alliance of Aromatherapy 2016 Achievement of Excellence Award and voted one of the top five aromatherapists in Vancouver, BC. Kelly sits on the board of the United Plant Savers (UpS), and is an independent researcher, instructor and consultant.

Shannon Becker, PhD, Certified Aromatherapist

Shannon Becker earned her PhD in Comparative Biomedical Sciences, concentrating in Cell Biology. She has over 14 years of experience in academic research, exploring topics such as the genetic relationship of chromosome rearrangements in cancer and evolution, the Wnt pathway, comparative genome analysis, and genomic changes in canine and human cancers. In recent years, she became a certified aromatherapist, and is continuing her aromatic medicine training. Shannon is the owner of Petrichor Apothecary, which specializes in evidence-based aromatherapeutics and natural products.

Tim Blakley, Aromatherapist and Herbalist

Tim Blakley is an aromatherapist, herbalist and educator for Frontier. He has written and taught extensively for over 30 years and co-authored the book Medicinal Herbs in the Garden, Field and Marketplace. Tim played an integral part in Frontier's herb-growing programs, including managing the National Center for the Preservation of Medicinal Herbs. He travels world-wide researching essential oil plants and herbs. He is co-owner of the California School of Herbal Studies, Land Manager/Herbalist at Herb Pharm. Tim is also the founding manager of the National Center for the Preservation of Medicinal Herbs, serves as national educator for Aura Cacia and plays a mean ukulele.

Jane Buckle, PhD, RN (Retired)

Jane Buckle is the creator and former director of RJ Buckle Associates LLC, a leading provider of courses in clinical aromatherapy to licensed health professionals in the USA. It also pioneered a gentle, form of touch that is suitable for critically ill or very fragile people called the 'M' Technique. The 'M' Technique courses are available to both licensed health professionals and the general public in USA, UK, Japan and South Africa. She is the author of three books Clinical Aromatherapy in Nursing (1997), Clinical Aromatherapy in Practice (20013), and Clinical Aromatherapy in Healthcare (2014).

Debbie Freund, RN, CCAP (Retired)

Debbie Freund has been using essential oils for over 20 years in private practice. She is certified in clinical aromatherapy with Dr. Jane Buckle and is a member of the AMTA. Ms. Freund used essential oils with the athletes in 1992 at the World Cup and the Goodwill Games, and again in 1996 at the Olympic Games in Atlanta, GA. She is an experienced aromatherapy educator and has lectured extensively on the subject in the US and abroad.

Rhiannon Lewis is the director of Essential Oil Resource Consultants. She is an experienced clinical aromatherapist, author and gifted educator. A world renown lecturer, her extensive experience in the clinical uses of essential oils stems from undertaking training in countries such as the UK, France and the USA. She is the editor of the International Journal of Clinical Aromatherapy (IJCA) and a Fellow of the International Federation of Professional Aromatherapists (IFPA) in the UK. In 2009, she received the Alliance of International Aromatherapists (AIA) Outstanding Achievement Award for her work in the field of aromatherapy.

Rhiannon Lewis, FIFPA

Laraine Pounds, RN, BSN, MSN, CMT

Laraine is a Clinical Specialist in Psychiatric-Mental Health Nursing, Certified Massage Therapist, and Licensed Esthetician. Her life-long curiosity regarding the body/mind/spirit continuum and appreciation of the benefits of alternative and complementary health modalities for personal health as well as professional uses led to her additional study of many holistic modalities. She is an experienced nurse educator and has published numerous aromatherapy articles. In addition to being an international lecturer, Ms. Pounds consults with agencies to develop aromatherapy systems of care. She is a co-founder of the Institute of Integrative Aromatherapy and an author of the AIA Curriculum Guidelines. She is a co-founder of the NAHA and AIA and served on the board of the Aromatherapy Registration Council (ARC).
